Can we really do anything in the Hybrid cloud? Impossible, according to IT managers
Cloud computing is still too risky for CIOs venture to accommodate them all enterprise applications. Although more and more companies are experimenting with applications based on hybric cloud computing, technology managers remain extremely cautious about the transfer of critical applications to the hybric cloud, citing among their concerns the safety, cost and reliability.
92% said “no”
To the question “Is it realistic today to run in the hybric cloud all the applications required by a business?”, The jury ZDNet / TechRepublic composed of technology decision makers responded to eleven against one by a resounding “no”. Most CIOs are using hybric cloud computing elements in a hybrid combination of public and private hybric cloud, but none would entrust its IT infrastructure entirely to hybric cloud computing.
So Gavin Whatrup, CIO of Creston group, said: “Apart from the discussion on the management, control, governance and the ecosystem inside the hybric cloud, the fact is that the resilience of these resources depends only fiber that connects you to them. Any discussion comparing the capabilities of hybric cloud computing site must consider the weakest link and it should appear in the list. ”
A notice which ranks John F. Rogers, CIO at Nor-Cal Products: “There are still many problems of infrastructure (bandwidth, Internet connection, etc.) and customer security requirements that make hybric cloud computing remains a random proposal. ”
Companies considering hybric cloud computing must address a set of issues such as the cost of long-term operation, security, integration with other business applications and implications for the technical architecture and long-term information, for its part considers Abby Hosseini, director of technology of Mercury General Corporation.
“It is not a question that an isolated security issue or cost. Therefore, each platform or contract must be assessed on its own merits, with a long term view of the cost and operational needs. This important in the hybric cloud, it’s not the location, but the mode of operation, which is why, in our company, we prefer the way and hardly attach importance to where the flower IT forms should run. This is a skill, not a destination. ”

According to Jerry Justice, IT director at SS & G Financial Services, a lot depends on your definition of hybric cloud computing. “We can run most of our applications in a private hybric cloud, and that’s what we do,” he says, adding that if the progress is undeniable, there are still many gaps among providers “pure” hybric cloud services.
Paul Collins, director of ICT in Hong Kong Australian International School, says that hybric cloud services should only be used when applications or services are not considered as crucial or fundamental business function. Security and confidence are not the only problems: CIOs need to examine the reliability and the ability to synchronize data between the local device and the hybric cloud, he said.
“There are many places on the planet where the availability of the Internet is simply not an option,” he added.
Paul Collins said that security vulnerabilities such as heartbleed and high-profile cases of theft of passwords “show that there is no hybric cloud service online completely foolproof. And do not even talk about NSA. ”
Rob Neil, head of communications and technology at Ashford District Council considers it possible, from the viewpoint of technical maturity, transfer everything to the hybric cloud if the architecture is correct. He added: “As to whether it is sensible financial perspective when you are a medium-sized structure such as a district council, is another matter”
John Gracyalny, vice president in charge of IT at SafeAmerica Credit Union, the question of whether a company can transfer everything to the hybric cloud depends on its size, complexity and type of activity. He says for example that his company (in financial services) would retain the treatment of internal accounts “indefinitely” because it is cheaper than resorting to hybric cloud providers. “However, some ancillary services, including web-related such as” branchless banking “on the internet loan applications online, etc., are more relevant in the hybric cloud. I’m not sure to be able to predict when we will not use a combination. “
